Getting Into Setup – for the Administrator

In Salesforce, setup is where the backend of the system is. For any setup of new users, adding fields, doing any sort of Salesforce administration this is where you go. The easiest way to access setup from any page on the user side of Salesforce is by clicking on the little gear icon on the top right hand side of the screen and then clicking Setup.

This will take you into setup where you will see the home page and the object manager.

Home

Home is the area that has access to all the things that make Salesforce work. From an admin perspective you will spend some time here. The most powerful part of being on the home page is the “quick find” function that enables you to quickly search for the admin area you are looking for.

Object Manager
The object manager is where you can access all the different objects in Salesforce. The best way to think about an object is that it is like an excel spreadsheet on one topic. For example all of our Church / Organisation data is held in one object called Church / Organisation. All our course information (no matter what type of course or materials used) is held in the Course object. You will go here when you need to update a field (when Alpha Global Film Series becomes available) or when you need to add fields as well.
