Adding a New Church

STEP 3: Adding a New Church

  1. First before you add a new church – search to make sure it doesn’t exist in the database. Use the search function at the top of the page. Remember you don’t have to put in the full name (in fact we recommend you don’t)
  2. If the church doesn’t exist:
    1. Click on Churches / Organisations
    2. Click on New
  3. Select the record type Organisation (Depending on how your salesforce has been setup you may not have to do this step!)
  4. Fill in the details of the church. (See Exercise 1)

Exercise 1

You’ve found some of their details by visiting their website and talking to friends who happen to attend the church. Here are their details:

Church Name: St [your first name]’s Test Church (If this is a common church name eg St Pauls we recommend adding a suburb/city/town identifier at the end of the name)
Denomination: Anglican
Phone Number: [country code][numbers with no spaces]
Website: http://www.[yourfirstname]church.org
Size of Church: Pick the size of your church
Billing Address & Shipping Address are: [your home address], make sure to enter a city
Languages Spoken are: English and [choose another language]
Engagement Level: Informed

Click Save.

Here is what each field means.

  1. Church / Organisation Name – make it easy to identify.
  2. Don’t worry about Primary Contact yet.
  3. Phone Number - Generic phone number for the church.
  4. Denomination – Select the denomination.
  5. Engagement Level – This is how the church is engaged with Alpha. It is immensely helpful. i. Informed = They know about Alpha.
    1. Interested = Asking the question “What” a lot.
    2. Investigate = Exploring what it means to run Alpha.
    3. Incubate = Thinking time (might run inhouse).
    4. Implement = Starts Alpha / Training.
    5. Increase = Alpha growing - Alpha DNA impacts church.
    6. Influence = Helps others start Alpha / Place of Best practice.
    7. Intentional Partnership = Working closely together with Alpha.
  6. Church Email – generic email for the church.
  7. Type – this is the type of organisation. It can be a church, prison, school, non-profit etc. If you need further options talk to your administrator.
  8. Church Strength / Size references the size of the church (not everyone has this field so don’t worry if you don’t see it)
  9. Number of Services – how many services does the church have? (not everyone has this field so don’t worry if you don’t see it)
  10. Languages Spoken – you can select multiple languages. Used the shift and command keys on a Mac and shift and ctrl keys on a windows computer
  11. Website – does the church have a website? Enter it here.
  12. Facebook – does the church have a facebook page? Enter it here.
  13. Description is a searchable field. It’s a great place to stick other names that the church may have.
  14. Postal or Billing Address is the churches postal address.
  15. Physical or Shipping Address is the churches physical location.

PLEASE NOTE

If the field is highlighted in yellow it means that it has been edited but not yet Saved. Press Save if you want to save the changes that you have made.
