Update Parent Theme

We developed this theme to use a child theme. The parent theme contains all of the theme's functionality, while the child theme allows for regions to modify the site without affecting the parent theme. For more information on parent/child themes see this article.

Alpha International will occasionally update the parent theme with bug fixes or with new functionality. The NAOs can then update their websites with those changes. Only the parent theme will be updated keeping all child theme changes intact.

UPDATING THE THEME

Warning: Updating the alpha-marketing-theme parent theme will overwrite any changes you made to it. We recommend making a backup of the theme files before updating. We therefore strongly suggest making any changes to the theme using Alpha Child theme.

To update the parent theme the Wordpress site must have the GitUpdater plugin installed. (If you installed the site from the package distributed by AI, the plugin will already be installed).

To verify Git Updater installation and to start using it, go to Settings -> Git Updater.

Once in Git Updater, click the Refresh Cache button, wait a few seconds.

Then go to Appearance -> Themes; the 'alpha-marketing-theme' should have a notification - 'New version available. Update now' - (as shown in the screenshot on default 2022 them). If there is no notification this means that either you already have an up-to-date version of the theme or the plugin failed to fetch the updates. Please contact AI for support.

Click Update Now. The plugin will download and install the latest version of the parent theme. The site will go into maintenance mode during installation. Once notification disappears, review the site.
