Dashboard Announcements

The Announcement section allows NAO administrators to create a message that will appear on the user's dashboard.

On NAO sites there is a new "Announcements" menu on the left-hand side of the CMS. This is not available at the global level.

The new "announcement" post_type supports a title and text area. HTML can be used in the text area so that links can be included in the text. If the post_status of an announcement is 'publish' then it will be viewable on the front end. Multiple announcements can be displayed if more than one is published at a time. Only one announcement is viewable at a time, upon dismissal the callout will slide up, and the next announcement will slide down. Announcements can be set to a future date and the WP cron will switch them to publish at the appropriate time.

The announcements can be translated via the admin & translator views

Dismissals are stored in a cookie with the name pattern "dismissedAnnouncements-{USER_ID}" in the case a shared computer is used by multiple Course Admins. Since storage is in a cookie, the announcements would show up again if a user logged in on another computer.
